Adams' Grammar Teacher Training

The Adams’ Training School offers a unique opportunity for those wishing to achieve the highest standards in educational practice and experience. As part of the Haberdashers’ family of schools all Adams’ Federation participants can experience an exceptionally wide diversity of students, ability and educational establishments.

At Adams’ Grammar School, a selective grammar school for boys, you will experience students who will potentially take you to the edge of your own understanding of your subject. With this come new challenges - students who want to learn and expect their teachers to demand the highest standards from them. Additionally you can experience the unusual circumstances of a single sex secondary school. Adams’ is also one of the few state boarding schools in the country; something that has helped generate an exceptionally diverse range of extra-curricular activities. The boarding experience offers you a unique opportunity to learn how to manage both the academic and pastoral side of education and to engage in a challenging environment that is unavailable to most other Initial Teacher Trainees. Whilst you would not be expected to undertake boarding duties, the opportunity to learn about boarding and to shadow boarding tutors is available.

Abraham Darby Academy is a new academy and a perfect compliment to the Adams’ experience. A mixed gender intake, coupled with a wider range of ability make for a rich and fulfilling experience. The academy has developed an expertise in teaching students with Special Education Needs and hence combined with Adams' Grammar School offers you an opportunity to develop skills teaching across the full ability range. ADA is launching its first year of post 16 teaching in 2009 and as such offers you a chance to be involved in the start of a new and exciting educational development including A-Levels and BTECs. The Academy will be enjoying a full rebuilding programme over the next few years and as a result will be fitted with the most up to date teaching technology.

Trainees will find their mentors across the Federation experienced and supportive. All our mentors aim to ensure that trainees are given the best feedback, advice and support possible and are fully supported by the Training School initiative.
